Research Associate, Genetics & Development – Toronto, Ontario
Position:              Research Associate II

Site:                    Toronto Western Hospital

Department:         Genetics & Development

Reports to:          Principal Investigator

Salary Range:        $35.71 (minimum) – $44.64 (maximum)

Status:                Temporary Full-time (1 year)

Working under the general direction of the principal investigator, the Research Associate II exercises his/her own judgement in managing research studies. This may include: planning and participating in mid-level data analysis; drawing conclusions for review and incorporation into final research reports; assisting in the interpretation of results and the preparations of material for presentation, publication and/or grants; and performing administrative tasks related to the study within job classification. Specific responsibilities will include project management duties for scientific research projects in the area of central nervous system injury and disorders, including:

  • Help to foster new ideas and assist with preparation and submission of grant applications
  • Assist with budgeting and allocation for resources and personnel
  • Liaise with granting agencies and researchers to prepare scientific milestone reports
  • Coordinate and track knowledge dissemination deliverable for laboratory (presentations, manuscripts)
  • Perform personnel performance reviews for laboratory employees


  • M.Sc. Health Sciences with appropriate work experience, Ph.D. preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a laboratory setting
  • Experience with project management and managing people
  • Strong communication skills and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of neuroscience and spinal cord injury would be an asset
  • Formal management training an asset.
