Job Description

Primary Role
Lead and collaborate with cross-functional colleagues on devising and executing bioinformatics strategies across all therapeutic areas at Seattle Genetics; these strategies aim to understand disease pathogenesis and progression, drug mechanism of action, and factors impacting response to therapies.  Lead the establishment of cross-functional state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and processes, mentor other bioinformatics scientists, and provide hands-on analyses.

Key Responsibilities
•   Lead or guide cross-functional teams that develop and implement bioinformatics analysis strategies for drug development programs, to:
o   Integrate multi-modal multi-analyte clinical (and preclinical, where appropriate) biomarker data from internal studies and the literature to understand disease pathogenesis & progression, drug mechanism-of-action, and response (safety, efficacy, and pharmacodynamic) to therapies
o   generate testable hypotheses, design experiments, and incorporate appropriate biomarker/pharmacodynamic assessments in study protocols
o   assess patient stratification (prognostic & diagnostic markers), drug positioning and predictive modeling using state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and techniques
•   Communicate analyses results and interpretation to cross-functional matrix teams of biomarker leads, clinicians, biostatisticians, research scientists, and clinical pharmacologists
•   Collaborate with Biometrics, Information Technologies, Biomarkers/Diagnostics, Clinical Pharmacology, and other functions to establish and strengthen Bioinformatics infrastructure/systems
•   Lead resource planning, budgeting, and hiring in Bioinformatics, mentor junior bioinformatics scientists; select, hire and monitor qualified and cost-effective contractors, consultants, and/or CROs
•   Participate in the establishment of policies, standards, and guidance for the operation of the Bioinformatics group

–   Drug development experience in oncology and inflammation and strong understanding of disease biology in these therapeutic areas
–   Working experience in the biotech/pharma industry, preferably in clinical research
–   Strong background in Omic (RNA, proteomic, epigenetic) data analysis and biological interpretation; proficiency with biostatistics and data mining methodologies in conducting supervised and unsupervised analysis of Omic data
–   Proficiency using R /SAS and Bioconductor packages, commercial bioinformatics tools (ArrayStudio, Partek), data visualization tools (Spotfire, Cytoscape), molecular pathway analysis tools (Metacore, IPA), related languages (Java, C#, XML, Perl, C, C++, SQL) and commercial and publicly available biological databases (ArrayExpress/GEO, Oncomine, TCGA, 1000 Genomes etc.)
–   Proficiency with integration of multi-modal multi-analyte biomarker data with clinical data and knowledge management platforms.
–   Proficiency with modeling and simulation of disease pathogenesis and drug mechanism of action
–   Familiarity with regulatory submissions, including NDA/BLA or PMA, in a relevant therapeutic area; understanding of ICH guidelines and regulatory requirements
–   Ability to communicate effectively with clinicians, research & biomarker scientists, clinical pharmacologists, biostatisticians and computational scientists
–   Ability to explain bioinformatics technical issues to technical and non-technical staff
