Mankind Pharma’s DHA Campaign ensures importance of DHA among children
Pharma News

Mankind Pharma, one of the largest and fastest growing pharmaceutical companies in India, through a hi-decibel campaign ‘DHA Campaign’ has been spreading the awareness about the importance of DHA sufficiency among children within the age of 5 years. With the help of this 8-month-long campaign, the company reached out to 2,500 paediatrician and 12,000 children across the country.

It is believed that 90 per cent of the brain development takes place in kids within the age of 5 years and the brain grows 3 times bigger in size, hence DHA sufficiency at this age is very important for robust development. Moreover, vitamin D deficiency is prevalent in epidemic proportions in India, ranging from 70 per cent to 80 per cent in the general population leading to bone deformation among children below the age of 2 years.

Sheetal Arora, managing director, Mankind Pharma says, “Indian children are suffering from DHA deficiency at a greater percentage as there is a dip in the number of lactating mothers. Also the practice of breast feeding is being discontinued at a nascent stage, whereas it is believed that mother’s milk is one of the richest source of DHA. This is due to current lifestyle changes and hectic work schedule. Eyeing this challenge Mankind Pharma has introduced DHA sachets, with the consumption of which kids can overcome the deficiency. As DHA insufficiency cannot be identified through blood test, hence early diagnosis is a big question in regards to the treatment of this deficiency.”

“With the lack of DHA abundancy, a child can show symptoms like poor concentration, dyslexia, attention seeker, hyper active and many more. Hence, it is advisable that the child is exposed to food items which are rich in fatty acids and omega 3 like fish from a tender age. If not exposed timely, then it may restrict the brain development. Hence, proper treatment and awareness is very important,” Added Arora.

As evident, DHA along with zinc and vitamin D plays a crucial role in the overall growth and development of children. During the period of growth spurt particularly in the first 5 years of life, supplementation with these nutrients reasonably help to correct the deficiencies or insufficiencies. Thus improving neurocognitive, motor skills, bone development and hand and eye coordination in the primitive ages of children.
