‘INDIA TO BE AMONG TOP THREE PHARMA MARKETS’

The ASSOCHAM- RNCOS report has pegged the domestic pharmaceuticals market at 33 billion US dollars by the year 2020.

ASSOCHAM and Department Conference on Quality Management in Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing was held here on Thursday.

The report was released by the governor of Uttarakhand Dr K K Paul of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India said that India is likely to be among the top three pharmaceutical markets by incremental growth and sixth largest market globally in absolute size due to favourable conditions for pharma industry.

The Conference was organized under joint aegis of ASSOCHAM and Department of Pharmacy.

On the occassion, the Governor also suggested the use of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) which covers the manufacturing and testing of active pharmaceutical ingredients, diagnostics, food, pharmaceutical products and medical devices. The health minister of Uttarakhand Surendra Singh Negi said that it is important that drug manufacturers should pay attention for improving quality standards of the pharmaceutical manufacturing. The Executive Director of Kumaon Garhwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI), S P Goel outlined the need for organizing the Conference.

Speaking at the occasion Joint Secretary Department of Pharmaceuticals (DOP), Government of India, Sudhansh Pant said that DOP is formulating a scheme for technology up gradation of pharmacy companies in the small scale sector as a part of Governmental initiative on improving quality in pharma production in the country. The Government will provide financial assistance under this scheme to the manufacturing firms through financial institutions.R P Singh of QCI spoke about quality control in Pharma manufacturing units.
