GSK and Desano Manufacturing Deal Could Mean Cheaper HIV Drugs
Pharma News

GlaxoSmithKline plc (GSK) has signed a strategic manufacturing agreement with Chinese drug maker Desano Pharmaceuticals, to initiate production of its new HIV drug, Tivicay, inside China. Tivicay (dolutegravir) works as an integrase strand transfer inhibitor and is used with other successful antiretroviral agents for treating HIV.

The collaboration between the two companies is viewed as way to introduce a competitive supply of the finished HIV treatment for the Chinese market and several other developing countries. The active ingredient, produced by Desano, will become part of the supply chain of GSK’s ViiV unit. The final product, Tivicay, is expected to be sold at highly discounted prices.
